Studio Sarmīte devotes itself to researching and designing materials. Under the watchful eye of Latvian designer Sarmīte Poļakova, the studio focuses on transforming industrial waste and its various by-products into new closed-loop concepts. Material and product lifecycles play the primary role in the designer’s work, resulting in innovative concepts that prioritise circularity over durability. The studio’s design practice is comprised of practical and experimental research, transforming existing design and production methods. This playful approach results in surprising discoveries that call into question our established production, consuming and discarding habits. Studio Sarmīte puts its research findings regarding the interaction of materials, art, science and design to use in the development of materials and design processes, as well as in collaborations with clients including Adidas, Universal Design Studio, Hirsch, Vitra, Levi’s, and further.
